Sometimes we (teachers) get irritated by seeing students touching electronic dictionaries. I needed to work out some ways to put students away from that tool just for a short while to let them THINK.Last week, in one of my English classes(English V/international studies majors 3rd year), we were working on THINKING of the “topic” for some groups of words. I told the students to put away the electronic device. Instead I gave one English-Japanese or English-English paper dictionary for each group (of 3-4 students). No Japanese-English dictionaries were allowed. It did take more time to let them jump into electronic tools, of course, but I thought their brain storming process was far more important than to proceed my teaching plans.
